The Shorin-ryu Karate Dojo in San Antonio Texas was founded by Master Richard Gomez in 1975 under Gomez Martial Arts. By the middle 80's, the dojo was renamed YAMASHITA KARATE. Sensei Gomez developed a traditional karate dojo that still teaches his basic Shorin-ryu Karate system today.
We care about sharing, teaching and empowering students of all backgrounds with the discipline of Shorin-ryu Karate & Tai Chi.
Our dojo is a positively peaceful family oriented atmosphere.
Steven Ballenger Sensei was born February 9th, 1963 and began studying Kenshin Kan Karate in San Antonio Texas at Gomez Martial Arts Center as the (Senpai) apprentice of Sensei Richard Gomez in the early 80's. Justin Hernandez Senpai began Shorin-ryu Karate at the age of 16. He earned his 1st degree black belt after 3 years of study and is the assistant instructor. Senpai teaches 4 classes per day and is the most dedicated karateka Sensei Ballenger has ever taught. Senpai plans to become a Sensei in the next several years. We are fortunate to have him at our dojo.
